 Senior Data Analyst for SYTECH Digital Forensics

SYTECH has a current vacancy for a full-time experienced Senior Data Analyst to work within our Forensic Cell-Site and Communication Analysis Team, which assists Law Enforcement and the Criminal Justice System. (Prosecution & Defence)

 The Role

Work undertaken will involve assisting our Expert Witness Consultants through the preparation and analysis of communication and locational data in assessment of mobile phones and other related wireless devices, including GPS tracking devices.

The type of work is case dependant and can include the following:

  • Dissemination and preparation of Communications Data
  • Use of online mapping sources
  • Producing statistical results
  • Preparation of Chart Exhibits
  • Construction of Call Mapping Exhibits
  • Preparation of statements and report contents
  • Other related administrative tasks

Essential Skills

Attention to detail, a forensic approach and excellent presentation skills are paramount.

Being fully competent in the use of Microsoft Office based software, especially Excel, is essential.

A knowledge and understanding of the format of Call Data/Detail Records (CDRs) as supplied by differing network operators.

Desirable Skills

An existing knowledge/understanding of Cell-

Site Analysis and mobile telephone networks is desirable but this is not essential.

Knowledge of the following aspects would be advantageous:

  • Fundamental Differences between 2G, 3G and 4G networks.
  • GPRS, Wi-Fi, GPS and IMEI analysis.
  • Radio Frequency surveying for Cell-Site Analysis.

Experienced Mobile Phone Forensic Analyst

We are looking for new Team Members who possess exceptional Digital Forensics abilities  to join our State of the Art – Mobile Device Forensics Lab.

This position will put you at the forefront of extracting, analysing and presenting data from a wide range of mobile devices such a mobile telephone handsets, tablets and satellite navigation systems.

You must not only have experience of conducting both logical and physical analyses of devices using the leading tools (Cellebrite, XRY and Oxygen) but also experience in using a range of advanced techniques for which SYTECH are renowned for.

You will have a proven track record of analysing and interpreting low level data, and ideal candidates will also have the ability to write code to manipulate data using Python (preferably) or another scripting language.

Experience in effective communication of any progress of any assignments reporting directly to their Line Manager.

Using and applying the validated tools alongside policies + procedures, following direction from the Head of Department.

The role will include the production of comprehensive reports of findings in tech jargon free language and have these ready to present in court if required.

Representing SYTECH at case conferences as well as various different court hearings to present all findings and provide expert evidence where required.

The above will be needed alongside a proven track record in forensic laboratory practices & procedures which will have been gained as a digital investigations practitioner.

We are looking for new Team Members who possess exceptional Digital Forensics abilities  to join our State of the Art – PC Forensics Lab.

This position will put you at the forefront of extracting, analysing and presenting data from a wide range of PC Systems.

You must not only have experience of conducting examinations using the leading tools (Encase, Forensic Tool Kit and Internet Evidence Finder) but also experience in using a range of advanced techniques for which SYTECH are renowned for.

You will have a proven track record of analysing and interpreting low level data, and ideal candidates will also have the ability to write code to manipulate data using Enscripts and/or Python or another scripting language.

Work Placement Student – 2015-2016

Position Closed

Based in Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire.

The placement will involve full-time employment for a period of 12 months or more, followed by a permanent position on graduation.

Work undertaken during the placement will involve assisting a forensic investigator in a variety of tasks where attention to detail, forensic methodology and presentation are paramount.

The type of work will primarily be case dependant but on completion of the placement, the successful candidate will be able to:

  • Understand and adapt forensic methodology to the type of instruction
  • Present technical information to a number of audiences in a clear and understandable manner
  • Construct exhibits to be used in a court setting
  • Utilise computer forensic software to a high standard
  • Recover forensic artefacts applicable to each specific case
  • Comprehend the use of computer and mobile forensic techniques
  • Understand how an expert witness firm operates

The successful candidate must possess the following criteria:

  1. Computer literate – The successful candidate must be confident and highly skilled in using Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  2. Presentation skills – being able to present appropriately and accurately is an important skill for any successful forensic expert
  3. Organisational skills – being able to manage time and work efficiently.
  4. High standard of report writing skills

The successful candidate should ideally possess the following criteria:

  1. Basic computer forensic knowledge – The candidate should have a basic knowledge of the techniques used within the area of computer forensics
  2. Analytical Skills – Analytical skills are essential when investigating and collating difference sources of data according to case instructions.
  3. Research capabilities/skills – use of internet for sourcing and validating data.
  4. Live/Relocate to the area of Stoke-on-Trent.
